Yes, Jane Austen...A delight of Darcys--excellent!!

Yes, Jane Austen has always been one of my favorites. The humor in her work is fantastic. Montgomery is one of my all time favs, but I think her style - LOTS of description of the scenery - might not work as well in contemporary writing.

I also like the preciseness of C.S. Lewis' writing.

I agree with you on setting! I have to restrain myself from adding all these descriptions, when I think some of the best scenes in books just have a few tiny details and leave the rest for the imagination!Marissa Burthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13079821721448782710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-81871558147380091932011-02-15T21:43:35.280-06:002011-02-15T21:43:35.280-06:00Holly, I know it's easy to get caught up in th...Holly, I know it's easy to get caught up in the fun of world-building when writing. I'll just let it be my loss.

Angelica, your post got me thinking about what to call a group of Darcys. Too bad 'pride' is already taken for lions. A 'pride of Darcys' would work, though I'm thinking a 'delight of Darcys' would be better.Dee Garretsonhttp://deegarretson.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-65978792205576982572011-02-15T11:32:53.224-06:002011-02-15T11:32:53.224-06:00Okay, recovered from my swoon now, induced by a fi...Okay, recovered from my swoon now, induced by a filmstrip in my head of all the Mr. Darcys (Darcies?. I've a friend that writes romances that hates it though. It's really interesting arguing with "Charlou" about it because she's a feminist writer yet hates Jane Austen. I like to ask her, "Charlou, why do you despise a writer that did so much for women? That, and honestly...she's dead right? So it's not like she can defend herself against you. Let it go, Charlou...let it go."Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.com
