So lack of poc on television didn't bother me much. But as an adult I have seen how it affects others in countries where they feel like the minority. So representation is important to ensure no one feels left out whether or not you feel it personally. That's what I learned as an adult.Sheena-kay Grahamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17712661419116636671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-37627402275207925602017-06-04T12:42:52.566-05:002017-06-04T12:42:52.566-05:00They do! They demand honesty and respect, and it gives me such joy that they're not quiet about it as I was at their age. If literature is going to show, it should show the truth, in all its variations. We are fighting the fight for our children, but they are fighting the fight for themselves now. That's why diversity is important -- not just that children deserve it, but they will demand it.Kell Andrewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14353851581920748944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-60444720541543754682017-06-01T23:00:20.983-05:002017-06-01T23:00:20.983-05:00I'm white, but I've gotten to the point wh...I'm white, but I've gotten to the point where I can't not notice a lack of diversity on TV shows as well. And one or two token characters, sidekicks or love interests only, isn't enough. Plus I'm so tired of the cute straight white boy who is the chosen one for no particular reason! My husband and I have enjoyed the Troll Hunters cartoons, but why does *he* get to be the hero, and not the Hispanic girl (love interest) or the chubby kid with braces (sidekick)?Kris Bockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16217265282250089583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-81171433027665958212017-06-01T20:32:14.616-05:002017-06-01T20:32:14.616-05:00Thank you for bringing up this very important topi...Thank you for bringing up this very important topic, Linda. Representation definitely matters. As a child, I always looked for some similarity between myself and the characters in books I was reading. That was not easy to find. I'm glad there were more diverse characters in the books available to my children, but we still have a long way to go!Hildahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01363768354595022395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173408054965817352.post-84998978966450297372017-06-01T11:36:30.193-05:002017-06-01T11:36:30.193-05:00My ten-year-old loves Jessie too!
