My Epic Fairy Tale Fail, by Anna Stanizewski
My Epic Fairy Tale Fail, which is the second book in Anna Staniszewski's My Very Un-Fairy Tale Life series, was released earlier this month, and today is my day on the very informal blog tour.
I didn't actually have time to read the book, but my daughter is a huge fan of Anna's, and she did read the book, so I decided to interview her about it. So without further ado, here goes:
The opening line(s) of the book is as follows:
If someone tells you that you’re being sent to a magical mermaid land, take my advice and spend the day at the aquarium instead. Then you can have a nice lunch, feed the dolphins, and not get caught in the middle of a mer-people war.
What did you like about this opening?
The beginning (above) is very funny, and interesting.
Did it set the tone for the rest of the book?
Yes, because the rest of the book has the same humor, and… weirdness. That’s the best part about it.
Do you ever pick up a book at the store, and read the first line to decide if you want to buy it?
Nope, I read the back or the inside cover of the book.
The main character is named Jenny, and is known as The Adventurer.
What was your favorite thing about her?
Her sense of humor and personality.
If you could ask her anything, what would you ask?
What is one good thing about being an adventurer?
Is she the kind of girl you would hang out with? You know, if you were her age?
Yes, because she would be fun, and if we got to be close friends, I could bribe her gnome to take me anywhere.
The antagonist is apparently an evil Witch.
Did you find her portrayal believable?
Yes, because the only thing odd about her was the magical powers. Otherwise, she was kind of normal.
Did she scare you?
No, because she came off like a nice teacher who just wants you to learn, but is secretly just evil (aren’t all teachers?).
Whoa, careful honey. You know Anna is a teacher at a college, right?
If you ran into the witch in a dark alley, would you run, or do you think you’d be able to stand up to her?
I would not run, because of her teacher vibe.
Did you have any other favorite characters?
Yes, Jenny's best friend Melissa. She was awesome!
Is there anything else you want to add?
If you aren't planning to read this wonderful tale, I HIGHLY recommend it! It should definitely be high on your To be Read list!
All right. Well that's it, since my daughter is a woman of so few words. Have a great weekend, everyone!
In the meantime, you can find Anna Stanizewski at:
Love the father/daughter interview!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christina!
DeleteMe too! But darken that purple you used for her replies, please. It was so bright and flashy I was having a hard time reading it. Myabe I'm just getting old? Or going blind? Good god I'm going blind. Where's the screen... I can't see the screen!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Have a great weekend! ^_^
Sorry TD! I was trying to make it match the soap.
DeleteGreat Post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melanie!
DeleteYour daughter is the best. Great questions. Great (and funny) answers. Made my morning (amidst a bunch of snow here on the east coast) start a good one.
ReplyDeleteGlad we could help, Joe! And I could learn a lot from her. She's so much more to the point than I am. Succinct, you know?
DeleteGreat interview - I've heard these books are a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteThey sure look like it.
DeleteGreat interview. Your daughter is funny too. Maybe she could write a book like Anna's. I loved hearing what she thought of Anna's new book. It's on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie! I'll tell her you said that.
DeleteIt's always so great to hear the reader's perspective! Thanks for the interview. I love that your daughter is succinct and to the point!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea. I could learn a lot from her.
DeleteI particularly liked the comment about bribing her gnome, as it made me think I need to find a gnome to bribe. Perhaps your daughter would be amenable (I'll bribe her too) to be interviewed about her reading loves for Middle Grade Mafioso? (I've occasionally bribed my son to participate in book reviews, but he's even more succinct than your daughter.) We could all learn a thing or two from her!!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I can certainly ask Mike! Email me some questions.
DeleteCute! And funny she thinks all teachers are secretly evil.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I felt similar at her age.
DeleteI LOVE that you interviewed your daughter. Absolutely perfect. You know, being a person of few words translates wonderfully to blogdom. And since her words were well thought out, they carried a substantial amount of weight. Tell your daughter that I plan to read the book based on her recommendation!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Kim! I definitely will.
DeleteI love how she wants to bribe the gnome. That's my kind of girl
ReplyDeleteShe's very sly, the little devil.
DeleteKids reviewing kids' books. What a concept!
ReplyDelete(And bribing Anthony the Gnome is a great idea. If Anna hadn't already finished writing the third book in the series I think that would be a fantastic element to include in the third book.)
...
That sounds like a great point. Thanks, Tom!
DeleteIt sounds like all you need to do is write funny characters. Is that what I'm reading? No wonder I hate reading MG. They seem so stripped of any content that would intrigue me.
ReplyDeleteI think it's like all books, Mike, in the sense that certainly not every book is for every person.
DeleteFun! That sounds great.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAwesome father-daughter day here. And she always tells it like it is.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Thanks, MC!
DeleteTeacher vibes are scary. (=
ReplyDeleteGreat interview, this sound like a book my daughter would like. Thanks for the recommendation!
You're welcome, Elise!
DeleteLOL! LOVE this interview! I'm totally getting this for Catherine. You guys are too cute~ <3
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she'll love it!
DeleteWhat a great interview! Although, I'm not so sure about the evil teachers comment. LOL.
ReplyDeleteSorry I didn't get you questions, Matt. I got slammed with not one, but TWO sick kiddos, Gah!
No worries, Shannon. I hope everyone's better!
Deleteso glad the humor factor caught your daughter's interest. I love stories that have humor as well as that old pathos stuff.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the interview.
Thanks, Lee!
DeleteGreat interview! Way to go!! I love the comment about how all teachers are EVIL. LOL
ReplyDeleteI know, she's so funny!
