Dark Waters by
Christopher Holt is a fast-paced middle grade adventure story and the second
book in The Last Dogs Series.
Cover copy without any spoilers: When canine heroes
Max, Rocky, and Gizmo encounter a lavish riverboat moored close to shore,
they're wary of what they might find on board. But as they're welcomed by a
friendly community of dogs, the trio discover that there's more to their new
world than they expected. These dogs have seen humans -- who Max, Rocky, and
Gizmo thought had disappeared without a trace.
The brave companions meet new friends and encounter old enemies in their search for their people, traveling to places they never imagined -- from a high-speed monorail to a zoo filled with exotic animals. Max, Rocky, and Gizmo uncover secrets that promise to change their lives forever as they draw closer to figuring out why the humans left and being reunited with their families.
What I loved about
Dark Waters was the spot on mix of dog characteristics, behavior and instinct
combined with some human-like reasoning. I think it’s a combination that is difficult to achieve but Christopher Holt did a great job with it and I had no
trouble going along on the main characters’ quest.
I’m curious to see
how the series will end. From what I’ve seen so far, I think the series would
make an excellent animated movie!!
And, Allen Douglas’
illustrations are beautiful and accurate.
The third book in the
series, The Long Road, is due out in November.
Congrats
Christopher!!
I’m giving away one
hardcover copy of Dark Waters. Just leave a comment by midnight, Friday September 6th to be considered in the drawing.
This looks really cool. I'm a cover girl and this one nabs me! It's can be tricky to get the animal/human emotional connection right, so I'm so happy when I see more books like this. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, the cover is amazing. And the story is too!
DeleteWhat an exciting premise! The story has me intrigued and I can definitely see why people gravitate to it. And with more adaptations happening you never know, maybe.
