My Epic Fairy Tale Fail, which is the second book in Anna Staniszewski's My Very Un-Fairy Tale Life series, was released earlier this month, and today is my day on the very informal blog tour.
I didn't actually have time to read the book, but my daughter is a huge fan of Anna's, and she did read the book, so I decided to interview her about it. So without further ado, here goes:
The opening line(s) of the book is as follows:
If someone tells you that you’re being sent to a magical mermaid land, take my advice and spend the day at the aquarium instead. Then you can have a nice lunch, feed the dolphins, and not get caught in the middle of a mer-people war.
What did you like about this opening?
The beginning (above) is very funny, and interesting.
Did it set the tone for the rest of the book?
Yes, because the rest of the book has the same humor, and… weirdness. That’s the best part about it.
Do you ever pick up a book at the store, and read the first line to decide if you want to buy it?
Nope, I read the back or the inside cover of the book.
The main character is named Jenny, and is known as The Adventurer.
What was your favorite thing about her?
Her sense of humor and personality.
If you could ask her anything, what would you ask?
What is one good thing about being an adventurer?
Is she the kind of girl you would hang out with? You know, if you were her age?
Yes, because she would be fun, and if we got to be close friends, I could bribe her gnome to take me anywhere.
The antagonist is apparently an evil Witch.
Did you find her portrayal believable?
Yes, because the only thing odd about her was the magical powers. Otherwise, she was kind of normal.
Did she scare you?
No, because she came off like a nice teacher who just wants you to learn, but is secretly just evil (aren’t all teachers?).
Whoa, careful honey. You know Anna is a teacher at a college, right?
If you ran into the witch in a dark alley, would you run, or do you think you’d be able to stand up to her?
I would not run, because of her teacher vibe.
Did you have any other favorite characters?
Yes, Jenny's best friend Melissa. She was awesome!
Is there anything else you want to add?
If you aren't planning to read this wonderful tale, I HIGHLY recommend it! It should definitely be high on your To be Read list!
