We had such a hard time deciding this that instead of bringing on two new members as planned, we chose three! They are all super awesome and please help us welcome them to TEAM MAYHEM!!! wOOt!
Why we like this girl:Not only does she have a cool middle name, but her first novel, MAY B., debuts spring 2012 (Schwartz and Wade/Random House Children's Books). We can't wait to get our grubby hands on her debut! She's repped by Michelle Humphrey at ICM (awesomeness). Her top favorite middle-grade novels are THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, HATCHET, anything with Laura Ingalls, Anne Shirley, Ramona Quimby, or Taran, the Pig Boy. Oh, and she stayed in the same room Hemingway rented while writing THE SUN ALSO RISES! She's way too good for us already!!!!

Four cool things about Michael:
- When I was younger I HATED school, and now I'm a teacher, of all things. Go figure.
- My biggest pet peeve is hearing people eating/chewing. Drives me nuts, and if they're eating nuts, by the way, that's even worse. (Yeah, we agree, super gross!)
- I have this dream of being able to have my office atop my house (jutting up from the roof) overlooking a scenic view, with windows on all sides and auto-dimming possible to allow me to see out, but people outside unable to see me.
- I am extremely superstitious, especially related to my sports teams (NY Yankees, St. Louis Rams, NJ Nets, NY Islanders, Syracuse Orange).
Michael is repped by Brenda Bowen, Sanford J. Greenburger Associates and they've got lots of good things in the works!

Yahong is very mysterious. We don't have her picture...YET!
Yahong Chi is a children’s writer and book reviewer. She reviews for CM: Canadian Review of Materials, Teen Voices, Crow Toes Quarterly and Canadian Children’s Book News.
Why Yahong is redonkulously cool:I'm the most patriotic Canadian you'll ever meet; I adore my country. My New Year's resolution was to network more with writers, and it's been a ton of fun so far. My favorite bloggers are ones who respond to all comments, and my absolute favorite genre ever is middle-grade fantasy. I am a huge sucker for MG fantasy.Yahong's favorite books/series are: Harry Potter series, Artemis Fowl series and Windblowne by Stephen Messer

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!!! Posts from these newbies will start next month!!!

  1. Welcome Caroline, Michael, and Yahong!! So glad to have you aboard.

  2. EEEEEEH! I'm so excited! THANK YOU! *waves to Michale and Caroline* Hey there, new friends!

  3. Glad to be here! And looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I have to say I HATED my middle name as a middle schooler. Classmates loved to ask if my parents were hippies and if I had sisters named Moonbeam and Sunshine at home. Now, I like it.

I'm so glad there's a place for MG people to get together and talk books.

  4. We are sooo happy to have you guys here!!! You all bring something different to the table, which is what we love!

We will be in touch with you next week with the new blog schedule, etc! And get all the info so we can put up your "blurbs" on the Team Mayhem page! :)

    xoxo -- Hilary

  5. Like the others, I'm glad to be here. Can't wait to meet everyone.

Question: Can I get a bar of that soap now?

  6. So glad y'all are joining us!

Caroline - So, "Starr" makes me think of Emily of New Moon. I'm totally jealous.

Michael - The only thing worse than hearing chewing is hearing it WHILE YOU'RE TRYING TO WATCH A MOVIE. Or read a book. Equally distressing.

    Yahong - Fantasy lovers unite!

Welcome everybody! Can't wait to get to know each of you a bit more.

  7. Marissa, I love Emily Starr and all things LM Montgomery! Have you read her journals? I'm planning a re-read this year.

  8. Caroline - ohmygoodness - yes! I just received the 5th one for Christmas this year and finished it up. She is such an intriguing woman, and I am in awe of everything she accomplished, including those journals!! My sweet husband even took me to PEI for our honeymoon - ha!

I end up rereading her books every year or so. In fact, just this morning I was feeling in an Anne-ish mood... :)

  9. Okay, Caroline, I just poked around your website. The Count of Monte Cristo is another of my all time favorites. I think it, along with A Tale of Two Cities, was one of the first works of literature that profoundly shaped me. That's it. We're destined to be friends. :)

  10. Kindred spirits, for sure. I can't tell me how thrilled this makes me! Those journals are so hard to track down. My best friend is missing #4 but was able to find it at the library.

Before high school, I'd only read Anne (all the way though Rilla of Ingleside, of course) and Emily. A friend sent me home over summer break with two shopping bags of Montgomery books. I sat on the couch and blissfully read all summer long.

I could talk Maud all day... . Maybe someday we should!

It's interesting how many book bloggers I've read lately who list Blue Castle as an all-time favorite. That was supposed to be Maud's only adult title, yes? One I need to re-read.

A writer named Serenity Bohon is also a huge Ann fan. Check out her blog sometime.

    Okay, I'll be quiet now.

  11. I think the journals must have had a super limited run, but I think they're fabulous on so many levels - and not just for Maud-groupies like us! The glimpse into family life of her time, her amazing (and sharp!) character sketches, and the record of a life. So inspiring.

I liked the Blue Castle, although Anne is still my favorite. Did you read A Tangled Web? I think that might have been an adult one as well?

Anyway, maybe we'll have to do a joint post on all things Montgomery sometime soon. I know Hilary's a fan, too. :)

  12. Yes! I loved A Tangled Web. Probably because I'm a nosey person, and the book felt like one big gossip session.

And I learned so much about life in at the turn of the century from those journals. I'm a former teacher, have two sons, and am a pastor's wife, so have always felt a kinship with Maud (though thankfully none of her difficulties).

Some Anne posts would be fun. Hillary, are you game?

  13. Welcome, I'm looking forward to all your contributions!

  14. Welcome, guys! :)

Thanks for adding to the mayhem!
